Overview
Looking at her, most would feel an instant surge of pity. This pity was completely wasted because she never acknowledged it. Her wealth was measured in the books she devoured constantly. By the time she was ten years old she had consumed most of Earnest Hemingway's works and her dreams were re-runs of the classics she had read. Depending on what she read she would decide to become a world class ballerina, a female FBI agent, a scientist like Madame Curie, a veterinarian, a college professor, or even a pilot or astronaut. It never occurred that any of these were out of her reach. Due to her reading habits and proficiency, she was an excellent scholar. Her friends were Harper Lee, Betty Smith, Margaret Mitchell, Oscar Wilde, R.L. Stine, and as she grew older, the series by J.K. Rawlings. She was bored by casual, pointless conversation about fashions, movie stars, or gossip. Where would life take such a girl? What would her journey be? How much courage would she need when the realization became clear there was a wide difference between books and real life? Long Journey Home is the story of one girl's struggle and determination to make the most of a life which seemed to be a lost cause. Dealt the worst possible cards and she made them into an almost unbelievable winning hand. An Inspirational, entertaining, unforgettable read.
