What is the biblical position about tithing? When gathering together all individual verses and passages about tithing specific and about giving in general, are Christian people commanded to tithe? Many Christian people ardently believe so. They bend over backwards to make sure that no expenses interfere with their tithe to their church. This includes ordained pastors and Bible scholars such as seminary professors. On the other hand, most Christian people do not tithe. And some pastors and scholars teach and preach that tithing is not a biblical norm or requirement for Christians. In summary, they say that Old Testament law does not apply to New Testament Christians, and the New Testament giving emphasis is on ability and cheerfulness, rather than on fixed percentages. So what is the proper interpretation and application of tithing passages from the Holy Bible for New Testament Christians today? In the first edition of this book, I gathered together many passages about tithing, analyzed them in their context, and concluded that tithing is the proper standard for Christians. In this second edition, I have gathered material from authors who preach and write from a counter viewpoint. These authors are degreed clergy and scholars.
