'This Time-That Time' book one of the trilogy. When the truth finally dawns on Veronica Hartley that she has been taken back in time to live periods of elderly Mrs Humphries' wretched life, she is horrified because she had blatantly contributed to the poor lady's misery before she died. During her trips to the past, Veronica meets and makes friends with Mildred, who started her working life as Mrs Humphries maid at the age of fourteen. She doesn't like to step out of her station and insists on doing what she believes is her duty in an endearing and likeable way. During a stay in the hospital, Veronica meets good-looking Dr James, and after a short romance, Veronica is overjoyed and quick to accept his proposal of marriage. Now living with Mildred in the late Mrs Humphries' cottage, Veronica finds herself sent back in time again. This time her host body is Mrs Humphries' twelve-year-old daughter, Alice. When she is knocked unconscious, Veronica finds herself temporarily without a host body. It is while she is in this confusing no-man's land, she meets the ghost of Mrs Humphries murdered mother-in-law, Lady Ann, who needs her help. Can she put things right without changing history? With the help of her newfound friends, Veronica endeavours to do just that, whilst her own life hangs in the balance back in her own time.
