Welcome To The Dark Ages. What didn't happen. Or maybe it did. Whatever. It was a stupid mistake. A customer of a radical book shop, had snooped into rumours about an ancient secret society that was still alive and kicking. A case has landed in the lap of a tough, cynical, streetwise New York detective. Saul Goodman knows he's stumbled onto something quite big - but even he can't guess how far into the pinnacles of power this conspiracy has penetrated. Translators Note: I choose to write this in English since I want to explain what has been going on to the international audience. I have made a gender-neutral translation of the play from English to Swedish. It is gender neutral since the novel 2023 plays a lot with gender. Men are turned into women for the sake of the story, there are a lot of female characters and it strikes me as feminist in its approach. My translation is not a direct translation but more of an interpretation. This is clear if you are a Swedish speaker and read this. I have been thorough in making everything Swedish. Even the cities, streets and as much as possible. Some characters are called insiders. I have taken the dramatic approach and call these characters part of the fifth column. A form of insiders that was first used (at least what I am aware of) by Franco in the Spanish civil war. This makes the insiders even more sinister in a way and it works a bit better in Swedish. At least I think so. And hey, I am calling the shots. This has been quite a challenge but it has been a good creative experience. In some cases, I have really made the gender-neutral extreme but some characters seem a bit extreme as well. At times the phrasing seems almost too gender-neutral or even not gender-neutral. But I wanted to stay close to the original text and not get lost in translation. At times, to stick close to the original you just need to translate the original and not just lose context.
