At the eastern end of the East China Sea, the sea bottom dramatically drops thousands of feet to form the Okinawa Trough. At one of the deepest parts of the trough, near the Diaoyu Inlands, a sunken barge came to rest with a sophisticated Chinese weapon system on its deck. At the surface, two Chinese naval ships stood guard awaiting a decision and a plan of action from their government. At the same time, a covert United States Navy team, intent on raising and spiriting away the weapon, flew to the far northern town of Barrow, Alaska to join with Jeffery (Kurt) Weil and Raghuraman (Raghu) Govindarajan, the principals of the small, civilian company, JWRG, LLC. The company had recently proven the surprising power of its new (secret) technology, the torus; a technology that promised to be just the ticket to capture the weapon from under the noses of the Chinese.Meanwhile, in New York (Brooklyn) and New Jersey (Sea Girt), unknown persons vie for the research records of JWRG, LLC, stealthily searching and planting listening devices in the homes of Kurt and Raghu. Kurt's fiancé, Alexandra Sedaitis, and Raghu's wife, Roshni, themselves with little knowledge of the secrets of either the torus or the navy team's trip, fend off the questions of the FBI and struggle with the shadows cast by the unknown persons and, soon, the reemergence of the terrorists determined to attack Washington, D.C.
