Overview
One romance fostered in freedom, another shackled by slavery-both tormented by one common foe... Cheapside Auction Block, 1859 Lexington, Kentucky With America's slave trade at an all-time high, itinerant preacher Timothy Locker makes it his mission to help fugitive slaves escape to freedom. When he's not transporting runaways on the Underground Railroad, he's busy saving souls. He has no time for romance. But after a pretty nurse assists him with an injured slave who escaped during an auction, all bets are off. He's hopelessly smitten by Haven Haywood's beauty and compassion. The trouble is Haven's pa owns slaves. Career-minded Haven Haywood isn't the least bit interested in courtship-until Timothy stirs her heart with feelings she can't ignore. With a budding romance in the making, it's not long before differing views on slavery come between them. After Haven's pa learns of Timothy's secret missions, Haven finds herself torn between love for Timothy and loyalty to Pa. When an unexpected twist of fate threatens Timothy's friends, the slave preacher Micah and his wife, Ruth, Timothy turns to Haven for help. Will Haven risk a confrontation with Pa in an attempt to save them? With Cheapside waiting to stake its claim, Haven must decide where her loyalties lie.
