The Bloodhound

The bloodhound is an easy-going dog thanks to his calm demeanor. He isn't a guardian by nature, but the volume of his bark and his expression make him very persuasive. In general, the bloodhound doesn't bite, but he has the best flair. You should never forget that he is a hunter. He is a great retriever for big game - like deer, stag, or boar - but our friend has a tender heart: he is an affectionate and kind companion. However, this is an independent dog. His kindness and bonhomie shouldn't make you forget about this last point. The bloodhound is affectionate and extremely faithful to his master. He will be entirely devoted to you. He gets along with kids very well. However, the bloodhound is determined, and he has character. If you do not educate him well, he will be hotheaded and deaf to your orders, especially if he decides to follow a track, and it will be better if you're the one that points it to him. If you don't educate him correctly, you shouldn't be surprised if he decides to go underground and ignore your voice when he's out with you. It would be preferable to leave him on leash or to perfectly master the 'recall' during his education. You should know that a bloodhound can follow a trail during whole days, and that's why he is very praised by the police. When you hear a bloodhound's voice capacities for the first time, you will be amazed. He can howl, bark lengthily, whine melodically, and squeak melancholically. All this is a way to communicate with you and to let you know that he's about to disappear. You get it, a bloodhound in an apartment will be hell. This dog needs space and exercise. He is intelligent, he is calm, but he will always be a pack dog. His socialization is crucial, or else he will act as the boss when surrounded by other dogs. This dog has a strong personality; he is incredibly stubborn and tenacious. Do not fall for his goody and melancholic appearance: he is a comedian. The bloodhound is capable of staggering reactions. He will never be aggressive towards you, but he won't let you dominate. The Saint-Hubert's dog is an athlete breed: he needs long and regular walks during which he can spend his energy.
