Overview

Written by Dr. A. Toureche, this book offers a comprehensive analysis of Decision Support Systems (DSS), from their theoretical foundations to their practical uses. Starting out as simple automation tools in the 1960s, DSS have today become truly intelligent platforms integrating Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, IoT, Cloud and Augmented Reality. The author highlights their role in various sectors such as finance, healthcare, logistics, industry, marketing and public administration, distinguishing three decision-making levels: strategic (long-term planning), tactical (optimization of resources) and operational (day-to-day decisions). The book also focuses on issues relating to data quality, costs, cybersecurity, algorithmic bias and ethical challenges. Finally, it projects the future of DAS towards intelligent, autonomous systems, capable of assisting decision-makers as true partners. In short, this book presents DAS as an essential strategic lever for transforming data into knowledge and boosting the competitiveness of organizations.
