Overview

Theism or Atheism: The Great Alternative explores the philosophical debate between theism (belief in a divine being or higher power) and atheism (the rejection of the belief in a deity). The work presents the core arguments for both positions, offering a comprehensive analysis of the concepts of faith, reason, and the nature of existence. Cohen delves into the historical development of religious thought, contrasting it with the rise of scientific understanding and rational inquiry. He examines the moral and ethical implications of both belief systems, focusing on how theism and atheism shape an individual's worldview, values, and approach to life. The book encourages readers to critically assess the nature of belief, the evidence supporting it, and the consequences of adopting either position. Cohen approaches the subject with intellectual rigor, providing a balanced examination of the two perspectives and challenging readers to engage with the central questions of human existence. Ultimately, Theism or Atheism serves as a thought-provoking exploration of the fundamental questions surrounding faith, belief, and the role of religion in shaping human experience. The work continues to be a key text for those interested in understanding the philosophical underpinnings of religious and secular thought.
