Overview

Doomsday is a dystopian tale that explores the collapse of Peruvian society in the face of a devastating pandemic unleashed by Virus 23, a highly contagious and lethal pathogen. The story unfolds in Piura, a city in northern Peru, and follows several characters whose lives intersect amid chaos and despair. Through their experiences, the narrative tackles themes such as survival, moral decay, human frailty, and the struggle to preserve one's humanity in a crumbling world. The plot opens with the ousting of President Carmen Seminario, removed from office by a military junta as the virus spreads rapidly. In parallel, we meet Nicanor Herrero, a businessman and art collector who reflects on his life and legacy while deciding how to face the end of the world. Elsewhere, an ordinary family-Raúl, Pamela, and their children-strive to survive in their fortified home, confronting the dangers of a society coming apart. Meanwhile, in the most vulnerable sectors, such as the Ollanta Humala Human Settlement, violence and vengeance erupt when a mother and daughter take justice into their own hands against an aggressor. As the pandemic advances, the army imposes martial law, and the city plunges into chaos: looting, summary executions, and fierce struggles over scarce resources. The main characters meet moral and physical dilemmas as the virus and violence close in. Raúl and his brother Carlos attempt to protect their family, but illness and internal conflict push them to the brink of collapse. At last, a glimmer of hope pierces the desolation when Diego, Raúl's youngest son, finds companionship in Ema, a young woman who, like him, is fighting to survive in a world that has lost its way.Doomsday blends elements of science fiction, drama, and thriller, using vivid language and detailed descriptions to immerse the reader in an apocalyptic setting. Through its characters, the story reflects on human nature, resilience, and the choices we make when everything seems lost.
