Overview

Coloring Outside the Lines is a vicarious journey into the often-tumultuous career of a lifelong educator.Experience the challenges of securing a college education while working at a variety of unusual part timejobs: caring for snakes to collecting pigeon guano from the rooftops of downtown buildings.Discover the author's unique approach to elementary and high school teaching assignments; marvel at the fact asking for forgiveness worked far more often than could be expected. Each chapter culminates in suggestions for presenting the required curricula outside a traditional four walls classroom. After choosing early retirement from a northern New York school district, Coloring Outside the Lines explores grantsmanship in Vermont and the thrill of kayaking to work across Lake Champlain.Under a goal of seeking new vistas every five years, the author later explored boundaries at PBS, and survived the rigors of life as an adjunct instructor at a local college.
