Overview
The Synod of Westminster, convened in 1066, included notable figures such as King Edward, Queen Edith, and leading bishops of England. The council addressed Edward's desire to travel to Rome to thank God for his peaceful reign and to secure blessings for his descendants. Concerns arose among his nobles about the stability of the kingdom during his absence, given the lack of a direct heir. Ultimately, it was decided that legates would be sent to Rome to convey Edward's intentions and petitions to the pope, reflecting the king's deep commitment to his faith and leadership.
