To truly understand the mental struggle of an indigenous woman you must first be one. I understand firsthand the struggle of navigating two cultures. In this book, I will explore the mental and emotional struggles that black women face when they are disconnected from their cultural roots. We must first define the two cultures they navigate: their African roots and the dominant culture of the Western world. Black women are often caught between two worlds, which can create a sense of isolation and disconnection. Living in two cultures can take a significant emotional and mental toll on black women. These tolls include feelings of isolation, identity crisis, and internalized racism. Despite the challenges, it is possible for black women to find balance between their cultural heritage and the dominant Western culture. Some practical advice and strategies for black women to integrate both cultures into their daily lives and find a sense of balance and wholeness includes self-discovery, building a support network, and seeking professional help when necessary. In conclusion, it is essential for black women to embrace their cultural identity and find balance between the two cultures they navigate. The Art of Remaining is a tool used to help with understanding the historical context and the emotional and mental struggles we face; black women can build a sense of cultural wholeness and move forward with a sense of pride and self-awareness. It is time for black women to take back their cultural identity and apply Emotional Intelligence in both cultures.
