The larger the stone the greater effect it has on the water. This short novel by Robert Allen is essentially a love story, but is also about the consequences of actions which can cause ripples in time for decades that follow. It follows the lives of the two main characters, Susan who is in an unhappy and sometimes violent and abusive marriage and John who is a young police constable. When they meet there is an instant and very powerful attraction. However when they fall in love it has disastrous and fatal consequences for those around them. But it is also a story of hope, love, friendship and honour which eventually conquers all adversity.
