Overview
Previously, Michael Bourgo has taken his readers on a poetic journey through the fifty states of America and the fifty capitals of Europe. Once again joining his two loves, history and verse, he now presents a gallery of our nation's forty-four Presidents. Combining light notes with the serious and using a judicious mix of historical events and personal details, he offers a portrait of each President that highlights his unique qualities and the stamp he left on our history. In his opinion, though, Presidents are only part of the narrative of our national life, so just to keep the record straight, he offers a bonus-portraits of eight additional Americans who left a lasting mark without occupying the office of Chief Magistrate. Like his other collections of light verse, it's a book that's been designed for families to share with their middle schoolers and will be best enjoyed when read aloud.
