Overview
Hollow Semblance is a collection of poems and artwork that explores the themes of nature, existentialism, disillusionment, mental or physical illness, and what it means to heal and start over. I look at the ways a person might try to satisfy their deepest primal urges, without losing control. Conversely, I consider the ways that a person can reject their humanity by self isolating, silencing themselves, and accepting defeat. Some of the poems are inspired by actual events, while others are inspired by imagined scenarios.I spend a lot of time in nature trying to connect with the deepest parts of myself. It is here that I can meditate on singular concepts and build them into a multi-layered poem. I'm typically inspired by a few words or a sentence. I chase this sentence to its end, until I have discovered why I was drawn to it initially. I hope that this book will accompany you on your own journey to self-discovery.Earth Skin"The rough cracked clay of my bodyhas hollowed itself to make a womb for my soul.To cradle the vestiges of a life removedor lost by time, occasionally revealed in dreams.Let the earth hold meand the cicadas sing me to sleep."-Elissia Kimball Feedback about selected poems from Hollow Semblance..."My favorite poem was Earth Skin.
