Overview
There are several conceivable causes, including dysfunctional families, excessive television viewing, video game use, and working mothers. These factors are so pervasive in our culture now that things would look fairly grim if they fully explained our current problems with kids. We all know a lot of single, working parents who do a great job raising their kids because they adopt good parenting techniques.The differences in today's youth are more easily explained by the various fundamental changes to society over the past few years. The outlook is very positive because, with education and motivation, we can adapt to these changes and, in doing so, perhaps even eliminate some of the problems that people assume are brought on by dysfunctional families, excessive television viewing, and working mothers.The primary change is that parents no longer serve as role models for children in terms of submission and obedience. Adults tend to forget that they no longer act in the same manner as they once did. Remember when Mom meekly obeyed Dad's orders or at least gave the impression that she did because it was the socially acceptable thing to do? When everything was nice, nobody questioned the notion that Dad's decisions were definitive.
