This unceasing evolution of the world of telecommunications requires consistent notions of bases to be understood.This course is intended to introduce students of engineering schools and universities to the basic notions on networks and telecommunications, it provides students with essential knowledge on this quite broad field.The most basic concepts have been addressed from information and its representation in transmission media, to encoding and techniques that ensure that this information is protected when it is sent.The OSI model is a basic model, which the student must master in order to understand how other models, such as models suitable for Ethernet networks, work.As the Internet is a technology primarily managed by the IP protocol, it is therefore necessary to analyze it and study the function of the routing that ensures the transmission of data to the recipients.This document represents the first part of this course, the second part will deal with dynamic routing protocols, and the operation of some Telecom technologies such as ATM, MPLS....
