Overview

What does a life of meaning look like when faith meets reason, and compassion leads the way? "The Ten Commitments: Essays for Religious Humanists" presents a practical and culturally inclusive framework for living well together, rooted in moral clarity, relational wisdom, and the everyday courage to do the right thing.Across ten deeply engaging essays, Pastor Michael explores commitments such as service and Participation, Curiosity and Humility, and Stewardship and Solidarity not as abstract ideals, but as lived practices that strengthen communities and honor human dignity. Drawing on Scripture and science, as well as marching bands and monasteries, jazz and justice work, these essays invite readers to move beyond belief as mere opinion and toward love as embodied action.Religious humanism, in these pages, is not a compromise but a calling: the sacred work of building a world where people thrive. You'll find stories that sing, questions that sharpen, and tools that help you organize your days around what matters: showing up, listening well, repairing harm, and celebrating the communal good.Whether you're a pastor, a seeker, a neighbor, or simply someone who wants to bring more light into public life, "The Ten Commitments" will meet you with practicality and hopefulness. Read it as a guide. Use it as a workbook. Share it as a conversation starter. Then take its ideas to the street, the sanctuary, the school board meeting, the kitchen table, turning commitment into communities that change their worlds.
