Introduction For centuries philosophers have sought answers to what means to have a good school education, its relationship to life and to life's purpose. Today is no different. Researchers and governments of the day continue to vie for a slice of the right way to educate children and students - most in search of genuine improvement, some in search of their own financial and job security. For teachers, this constant flow of new ideologies and methodologies raises questions over their own. And, while every philosophy has merit, that is not to say it holds the same value for every teacher, student, school nor every school community. Yet, despite this ongoing change and a complete understanding of what a school genuinely offers, parents place their trust in educators. For the community, the impact of school education whether it be success or failure, rests with us all as we find ourselves on the perpetual cycle of costly promises and costly reform. I've devoted my working life to my own philosophy and a desire to genuinely improve educational opportunities and outcomes for others. My work, in, across and outside of education plus many personal experiences have resulted in, among other things, a weekly Thought Starter, to encourage us to stop limiting our views of education to our own experiences and start looking from a wider vantage point. Education impacts every government portfolio and every portfolio impacts education. Curriculum, funding, business, politics, unions, facilities, world economies, family life, health and immigration all play a role in the success or otherwise in school education. For any effective lasting reform, we must look beyond the boundaries of schooling, embrace the possibilities and negate the limitations that we currently face.
