On the eighth day, God created Bubba, a rather imperfect creature (but, hey, aren't we all?) who makes friends with animals but wonders why he is the only one of his kind. When Bubba realizes he was created by God, his prayers are answered when, on the ninth day, God creates Lucy. After a shaky courtship, Bubba and Lucy settle in and raise a family, and all is well until a scout from another race, the Cannites, comes to call. Eventually the Cannites colonize the area across the river from Bubba's home, and his children leave the nest and marry into the Cannite tribe. Alas, there's a secret Bubba and Lucy have never told their children: that the Cannite scout who had first arrived had assaulted Lucy, and Bubba had killed him in defense of his wife's honor. That secret, the only time Bubba and Lucy have ever lied to their children, comes home to roost in disastrous fashion as it turns out the scout was a member of the royal family . . . a family into which Bubba's children have married. Through it all, Bubba perseveres, prays, has dialogues with God, and ultimately is fast-forwarded into the future to Alabama, where he is befuddled by motorized vehicles, television sets, modern man's fascination with sports -- and the fact that the people there seem to only look for God on one day out of the week. This book is a wondrous spiritual journey with a lesson in faith for all ages that no one should miss!
