From childhood, I loved the name Lilly which seems so rhythmic and musical. My grandmother was called Molly Lilly Bell by her friends. Lilly Ladybug combines folk literature characteristics using refrain and repetition. The book teaches manners, thoughtfulness, number patterns, colors, and life cycle change. The book was designed to make children want to participate in the reading process by repeating familiar patterns and phrases. Children love Dr. Richardson's books because they are about growing up and experiencing developmental changes. Children love to use their imagination and experience suspense waiting for the ending. The ending teaches a good moral like those found in fables.
