We are Katia and Kolia. These nicknames are what our friends and even new acquaintances call us; we are used to it and do not mind at all. Indeed, those names appear on the cover of this book.Both artists, we create our paintings together. We get along surprisingly well working either on a big mural or a small canvas; we never try to outdo each other. After working this way for quite a few years, our paintings-our art offspring-cover the walls and ceilings of the "temple" we call the Museum of Modern Renaissance, a unique piece of art and also our home.We also write books together that relate to our paintings, although we are not certain which take precedent, the books or the paintings.Symbolists, we call our artistic style "mystic realism" because we can see many connections between events, that, although hidden from the view of others, we find real. In order to grasp the meaning of our existence, we try to determine, with the help of our senses or intuition, where the fine line is found between reality and our comprehension of it. The idea of a journey became the focal point of our lives, and this journey helps us to create our paintings and books. Each painting and each book is another step into the boundless universe.This particular book is, in a way, a journal that describes the complex transformations involved in creating one's identity and comprehending the depths of one's self.
