Zimbabwe is the centre of this study, where the home brewing and distilling techniques follow no set of quality control specifications. The drinking of homebrews and distillates has its repercussions as physiological manifestations have previously indicated the unpalatability of these homebrews and distillates. In the past, some people have suffered or died from poisonous alcoholic concoctions. As a direct consequence, there would be a research imperative to use existing chemical and process engineering theories, food standards, and the applicable legislation in a bid to provide additional knowledge required to contain the adverse effects of these homebrews and illicit distillates. This book addresses that gap by presenting an investigation into home brewing and distillation and their associated risks and impacts. Thus, this study is of great clinical importance as it contributes vital information on consumers, impacts and medical risks, and the need for either review or reform of the applicable legislation.
