Young teenager Rab Burnside lives with Jesse his competitive brother and Buttons, their quixotic grandfather, on the windswept coast of Newfoundland during Queen Anne's War. One day, Buttons spots a mysterious ship sailing toward shore, doomed to crash into the shoals.
