My husband, Ralph P. Newman, died of transfusion AIDS on May 14, 1985. In time, this simple statement of fact will become familiar - only the name, date and gender will be changed. It is a cruel irony that Ralph's obsessive search of life's purpose culminated in 1980 at the pinnacle of his career - five months before heart surgery and the infusion of AIDS contaminated blood. The question of purpose has been the driving force behind the writing of this book.
