Synopsis. "Due Process" is the story of a paedophile who escapes from prison into a small, isolated community of quarrymen and fishermen around three prisons set on a peninsula on the east coast of Britain. The offender was a child in the community but was taken away when he was a boy. When he escapes he takes three hostages to sea in a stolen fishing boat. They manage to overpower him and he goes overboard and is assumed drowned. In fact he has been washed ashore. The Islanders have no sympathy for what he is, but for what once was; and shelter him. Someone finds his coat. The press descend on the Island, and much is made of an isolated group of people terrified by a sex offender loose among them. The Islanders hate the press, and their values and attitudes. They group together and resist the influx of pressmen. Eventually they realise that the incomers are destroying the way of life they have. No peace will result until the offender is found, or his body is washed up. For the good of the community, they then decide that this must happen.
