An Angel on Your Shoulder

In September, 2005, as Hurricane Katrina ravaged New Orleans, the author was asked to assist at a staging area in Chamblee, Georgia where many refugee families were taken after they fled the storm and its tragedies. As a clinical social worker, Jane was moved time and time again as she listened to stories of heartbreak and loss, courage and resilience. One little boy named Melvin told her about losing his mother as the waters rose. He shared that his "Mama" was up in heaven now. Jane understood and assured Melvin that he had, and always would have, an angel on his shoulder. Some time passed, and Jane was inspired to write the words to this book and to have it published for all those who have been afraid, sad, and bereft, especially for the children. Jane's brother, Andrew, was able to take Jane's vision and put the words into beautiful pictures. For Jane and Andrew, this book is a result of love and compassion, and it is with hope that all who read it find comfort and peace.
