Overview
Fire Island National Seashore is located on Fire Island, a 32- mile long barrier island along the southern coast of Long Island. Its beaches and lands, interwoven with the island's many residential communities, are visited primarily during the summer months by between three and four million people each year. The lack of conventional ground transport modes and services presents a challenge to visitors, who must come by either ferry or private boat, or walk in from neighboring communities and state and county parks.
