This report first describes the existing conditions on Fire Island with respect to transportation infrastructure, usage, and constraints. It organizes and clarifies the complex transportation systems on Fire Island, including as assessment of the key needs and challenges of various stakeholder groups. In particular, it describes vehicle use in the most detail possible. The characterization of existing conditions will provide a basis from which to identify and evaluate alternative transportation opportunities for the future.
