Bill Clinton described Obama's bid for the Democratic Party nomination for the president as "The biggest fairy tale I have ever seen." That, for many black people, was the turning point, if they ever had doubts as to who to vote for between Hillary and Barack. Bill Clinton knew what he was talking about. He is a Southerner. He understood how the game was played. If you don't know the real America, you are bound to be shocked. If you don't understand the real America, you will be angry. And many Americans were angry, and that statement, among other things, cost the Clintons the Democratic primary of 2008. President Clinton understood very well what he was talking about. He was acting the script. This nation has had an ugly past and some truths, that in 2016 we are no further ahead on race relations than we were 100 years ago, are a manifestation of the deep-rooted systemic discrimination. That Barack Obama was elected president does not change the script, just like the election of Benazir Bhutto as Pakistan's prime minister did not change the attitude toward women, nor does Oprah Winfrey's billionaire status negate blacks' poverty.
