A History Of Elaine Zettler Malakowsky & Family: Surviving Alcoholism In My Home And Family - A Life Story

My story begins on a farm on the plains of North Dakota. Living without electricity, running water, or sewer. My father moved us to another farm in central Minnesota where he added electrify, running water and a crank phone. I learned to milk cows and drive the tractor. I started in country school, then high school, and nursing training. Now an RN I moved to the big city of Minneapolis were I began work, then met a guy who became my husband. I dreamed of love and happiness forever. We journeyed together from romance, to disillusionment, then misery, and finally joy. I raised four wonderful children and loved being a mom. Marrying an alcoholic tested my resolve to never be divorced. Recovery led both of us to many heart breaks, separation, reuniting and the true meaning of love. God and my Catholic faith led us to Retrouvaille where we learned of the joy of serving together, sharing our recovery story to thousands of couples, in four countries, on two continents. My story includes journeying the world together, from Florida to Alaska, Hawaii to Maine, Canada to Brazil, Alaska to Sweden, seeing both the North Star and Southern Cross, forty-nine states, six countries, three continents, and two hemispheres. I learned of my roots back to the seventeenth century and visited many of their memories. Our foreign travels includes staying with local families and experiencing how they lived. My story shares these visits to Brazil, Trinidad, Guyana, and Sweden. I am proud to share my rich and fulfilling life.
