Fort Amanda - A Historical Redress

Someone once said, "History doesn't repeat itself, historians repeat other historians." That same thing can be said for most of what's been written about Fort Amanda over the past 150 years. Unfortunately, much of the information they repeated was incorrect. Forty years of research has addressed many of the myths and long held traditions related to the forts history and as a result we now have more insight into the day to day activities at Fort Amanda and the men who served her including 74 pages of the 366 page book dedicated to biographical and genealogical information of many of those men and the families they left at home. While the original purpose of the book "Fort Amanda - A Historical Redress," was written simply to "set the story straight," one surprising and personally satisfying outcome of the research was that it helped transform the two-dimensional characters mentioned in journals and letters into 3 dimensional human beings most of us can relate to.
