Urban Engineering

Urban engineering, also known as municipal engineering, is a branch of engineering concerned with urban infrastructure. It is a sub-discipline of civil engineering and specializes in residential and commercial development, planning & design, marine construction design and public works design. It makes use of science, art and engineering to design, construct and maintain an urban environment. This includes streets, sidewalks, water supply networks, sewers, street lighting, waste management, storage depots, public parks, etc. It may also include electrical, telecommunications, garbage collection and bus service networks. Some of these disciplines overlap with other civil engineering domains. Urban engineering focuses on the coordination of these infrastructure networks and services, as they are often built together and managed by the same authority.
