Unnecessary Friendship

Somewhere in the jungle was an army of ghosts who were known to attack and vanish into the landscape. They were phantoms who played heavily on the psyche of the American GI. Brian Finney would deal with them in his own way, having resigned himself to fight each battle as it came. Vietnam was the place Brian had chosen to deal with his demons, to escape them or destroy them, or in the process, destroy himself. Suicide was not his style; if he were going to die, he chose not to be remembered as one who took his own life. And if it were going to happen, he wanted it to be quick.
