Portraits From Futures Past : Pre-Columbian Figurines Of Mexico

I first came across the pre-Columbian figurines from Mexico in 1996 at The Rufino Tamayo Museum in Oaxaca City. They mesmerized me. They seemed both ancient and futuristic. They are powerful and direct. I did not want to try to document them....why, really? I wanted to hop on... crawl inside...see where they might take me. I photographed them with black and white film and later made manipulated, toned, silver prints in a traditional wet darkroom.
