Peter Hawthorn is a character in a series of books recounting his life in the British army. Joining the 2nd Yorkshire regiment with his life long friends he is deployed to Northern Ireland where they are turned from boys into men through their experiences of the troubles and the loss of friends at the hands of the IRA.
