Living in isolation was Joe Fremont's path to being normal. As an empath, he felt other people's emotions--their happiness, sorrow, anger and fear--whether he wished it or not. As a member of the CIA's Special Operations and Tactics Division, SOTD, he used his ability to help protect US interests from extraordinary and superhuman elements.
