Four years after walking into a home invasion which would change her life, Dee Ringald was returning home to her small town. Things change. People move on. Everything stays the same. The original home had been partially dismantled, she had insisted. It would have been impossible to cross the threshold without seeing her father beaten and bloody. Phillip, her brother, agreed and did as she asked. Just returning to the small town was hard enough, but she knew it was where she belonged. Phillip helped her purchase and renovate an older country house on the outskirts of the state park. Her closest neighbor was an old family friend both of them called Uncle Jake. Between him and her Australian Shepherd, Chip, she felt safe in the secluded farmhouse and was just beginning to reopen her line of a Southern Railroad designed to help battered women and children find a way out of dangerous situations. Then a gang element begins to haunt the trails of the park and forest. The state brings in an undercover DEA agent, Bradley Russell, to keep tabs on the gang activity. Although he catches a glimpse of Dee now and again, no one will admit to knowing who she is, until she seeks him out when Chip is hurt. As he gets to know her and her situation, it becomes apparent the men they thought were gang members are not looking for an avenue to move drugs, rather they are looking for someone. The men's efforts are centered on Dee and her best friend, Dr. Linda Terrell, even as they deny any reason for the men to be looking at them. A couple of near misses, a break-in at Linda's Clinic and it becomes apparent the ladies are in danger. Keeping them protected as they continue to stick to their normal routine proves to be challenging. Take a look inside to watch as Bradley overcomes Dee's fear of strangers and teaches her she has a right to love.A Southern Railway Series is a clean reading series I felt comfortable writing for my mother to read, as well as my 20 something granddaughters. I hope you enjoy following their work of panic rooms and hidden passages.
