Cliff Collins and his scavenged crew of construction temps are stranded in the October desert, outside of Las Vegas. Their ride home won't start, so they're stuck until morning. There are ten of them, plus Cliff, so now to pass the time each man must tell a story. That's the price of a seat by the fire, and who can say no? The evening is chilly.Through the night these ten men from every corner of America will reveal their personal encounters with the strange, the supernatural, the perverse, and the diabolically wicked, in ten new, all-original tales of horror. In no particular order, these include "The Wishing Box," an ancient, mysterious thing that a troubled college kid uses to bring back the dead. Other wishes are less problematic, including the one that centers on an antique car which becomes the magic ticket to a second chance at happiness for a sad old man, in "Forever and a Day." On a different note, if ever you find yourself wandering alone in the Chino Hills at sunset, watch out for the "Dust Devil." The experience could leave you smoking hot. Literally. Then for pure sick, there's nothing like the greedy travel nurse who goes to Vermont to rob from the dead, only to learn that some things are definitely "To Die For." But it's not all gloom and doom for a young Archeology grad, who takes the field trip of a lifetime in the rolling hills of Montana, when he crashes through the time/space continuum of "Hawa'te!"You're halfway through now and dying for more, but that won't be necessary. Indeed, there is much more. Stuck in the sticks of the Eastern Shore, an out-of-towner becomes trapped. That's when he discovers that sometimes just "Getting Out of Dodge" can be a real killer. Also back East, you'll meet a Pittsburgh man who inherits a remote West Virginia cabin and finds himself confronted by the murderous spirit of a frontier horror, in "The Inheritance." His is decidedly a matter of life and death, unlike the problems of a young college couple, who nonetheless find it tough to sleep when they're hounded by the diabolical "White Dog." On the other hand, sleep is the last thing on the mind of the gambler who takes a late-night shortcut through the Cascades of Oregon, where he encounters a mythical mountain monster, a.k.a. the "Woodwose." There's one more story, but... sorry, you'll have to read the book. So take a seat by the fire, my friend. What's a campfire without a good horror story? Grab a drink, pull up a stump, and burn as many marshmallows as you like. The Bunny Man is ready.
