"A Man of Character" describes not only Geoffrey Bayldon's many varied and prolific roles in theatre, screen, television and radio over several decades but also the man himself as he was fun, generous, welcoming, loving, loyal, witty and more. He was deserving of more accolades than were forthcoming and a failed attempt to get him on the honour's list not only came as a huge surprise but also a great disappointment to all the actors, directors and actresses who backed the proposal. However, this would not have disappointed Geoffrey himself as he was far more concerned with the quality of his work than any reward that may have resulted from it. I remember that many years ago he repeated to me what I think others remarked on that OBEstands for "Other Bugger's Efforts" anyway!
