Traffic Safety Data: Sources, Analysis and Applications

With growing cities, hectic schedules, and a mix of cars, bikes and pedestrian traffic, the risk of accidents rises. To avoid future crashes, data is required about past accidents, to analyse the various causes and develop methods to avoid them going forward. Besides traditional accident records, there are many other data sources that can complement or replace the accident records. Because of obvious limitations of available accident data, alternative data sources gain importance. The findings can help improve affected streets and intersections, Intelligent Traffic Systems, and optimize automated features in vehicles.
