Medieval Love and War is a gripping tale of romance and mysticism with compelling characters, rich dialogue, and historical references of feudal times. The history of Greek gods plays a part in the peasants' everyday life as they barter with fishwives, furriers, and various merchants at the Market Fair. Sir Rylan negotiates for King Matthew with their rival, Calibor, who covets the king's lands and his riches from the sea. He helps keep a fragile peace. Two castle domestics, Shep (the grand steward) and Hanna (the kitchener) test a forbidden love. Shep courts her as a man when he is really a woman. When his deceit is discovered, he attempts suicide as the king's food taster. The king and his troops believe Calibor is responsible for a poisoning attempt, which incites the crusade. Hanna prepares Shep for burial, but he regainsconsciousness. They vow to love each other no matter their gender. At the Market Fair, Sir Rylan is smitten by the exquisite maiden performing a dance for the villagers. He finds out she is the cloistered Princess Eden and must prove himself in battle before asking for her hand in marriage. Sir Rylan secretly arranges a midnight romantic tryst with the help of her two trusted domestics, but the lady-in-waiting deceives him and takes her place. The King's daughter is kidnapped and drugged causing her amnesia. Zaccai, the king's narcissistic scholar and trustee, helps Calibor with Eden's capture as revenge for his twin brother's death while pearl diving for the royal coffers. The princess escapes Calibor's men and lives as a peasant with the blacksmith and his son, David. They rename her Angel, and eventually David and Angel fall in love and wed. Meanwhile, Sir Rylan believes Calibor is holding her captive. King Matthew plans to wage war to save his kidnapped daughter. Fayte, the town's healer and soothsayer, helps save the village's youth from a spell cast by the enemy's sorcerer. David becomes the king's flag-bearer and goes off to war while his bride is newly pregnant. Calibor finds the princess and rapes her. He leaves her to continue living as a peasant, deeming her unworthy of him. Time passes, and Calibor decides to use the princess in his battleplan. He kidnaps her again in her last month of pregnancy. The evil titan believes he has fathered an heir. Angel gives birth to a seaside dweller (a little person), infuriating her abductor. David's mother was a dweller, and her son carried the gene. Calibor displays Eden as his hostage to stop the enemy soldiers. His plot is foiled after Sir Rylan rescues her, but the brave knight is mystified when she exhibits no memory of him. King Matthew wins the war but dies by a poison arrow. Sir Rylan is told that Eden has been murdered. Calibor escapes and is forced to live in exile. Angel becomes the village's new healer after Fayte passes away. The new king rules all the lands in peace and prosperity.
