These original duets are designed as instructional pieces for the developing trombonist or baritone player to utilized by a teacher and student during private lessons, independently among two students, or in small groups (2-3 players per part) during school group instructional periods. They are in common signatures, with understandable rhythms, and within the range expectations of most middle school players. Several of the duets are designed to help the student understand and hear the difference between major and minor keys. Most of the duets are in easy A-B-A song form. Some have 1st and 2nd endings. Performers will discover some to be easier than others. These could readily be prepared by young students to perform for their peers during regular instructional periods, as part of a scheduled school program, or alone with their teacher during special recitals and programs. The development of confidence and independence when introducing harmony in late elementary and middle school can be challenging. Students can hide within large ensembles, but not in a duet. These duets are designed to reinforce the development of the sounding of thirds and melodic patterns. Teachers will find this volume to be a beneficial and helpful tool for the development of young, autonomous low brass players.
