Higher Education in Romania: Overcoming Challenges and Embracing Opportunities - Hardcover

This Open Access volume is based on selected articles from the Challenges and Solutions in the Romanian Higher Education Conference (Bucharest, 2021) and aims to make the Romanian education system more visible and also comparable with other countries around the world. The volume provides valuable insight into the status-quo and the future directions for the Romanian higher education system in the larger context of the Bologna Process, the European Higher Education Area and the European Education Area. The chapters presented can constitute the starting point for generating new national policies addressing current challenges on a large spectre of relevant topics. The first part of this volume, Increasing Participation and Success in Higher Education, addresses the latest recommendations by the European Commission. These detail the main ways to consolidate the ongoing efforts and to further develop the ‘European Education Area’ by 2025. It discusses subthemes such as demographics, student dropout, flexible routes for access and progress in higher education, or evaluation of tools for improved progress in education, with an emphasis on students from low socioeconomic backgrounds. The second part, Enhancing Quality in Higher Education: Employability and the Future of Work, emphasizes the development and implementation of the higher education legislation, increased promotion of the educational offer targeting international students and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, enhancing the quality and relevance of education, or redefining the role of universities to maintain and improve the added value of the overall higher education system.
