Dante's allegorical "dark wood" has familiar symbolism to those of us who walk its path through our midlife and older years, especially in religious life. We are still in our prime, but we have passed through many stages in our biological, emotional, and psychological lives, some happy times and some times during which we have wandered in a "dark wood." Likewise, our religious lives have seen much renewal and many adaptations. Now, situated in the 21st century, we stand poised, waiting for religious life to transform itself to meet the needs of our own membership as well as those of the people whom we serve. I offer this book to all who celebrate community in religious life, as well as to those who think of religious life as a viable option for themselves. Let your own Magnificat resound.
