Focal dystonia is the most common form of dystonia in adults, and is a movement disorder characterized by sustained muscle contraction affecting a single part of the body, resulting in involuntary movements or abnormal postures. Cervical dystonia is the most frequent form of focal dystonia, often with significant functional, social, professional and aesthetic repercussions.Dystonia is diagnosed clinically, and is often difficult to diagnose due to the heterogeneity of the condition, both clinically and etiologically.Treatment of focal dystonia is essentially symptomatic, based on botulinum toxin as the first-line treatment, combined with various means of functional rehabilitation for certain clinical forms.
