Vaikom Muhammad Basheer was a renowned writer of Kerala. He wrote his stories in a very simple and popular Malayalam language and later this style of writing became the language of Malayalam fiction. It is said that innumerable phrases and various ways of speaking in Malayalam today have become possible only because of Basheer. In accordance with the general trend of Kerala writers, Basheer himself made reference to his own sect and his community in his stories and novels. And thus, Basheer's stories, which depict a purely Muslim environment, have found greater acceptance among the readers.
