Virginian Summer: 버지니아의 여름

'Virginian Summer (버지니아의 여름)'은 크게 열개의 작은 글묶음으로 되어 있으며, 저는 각 글묶음의 제목들을 '단상 (斷想) I: 미국에서, ' '단상 (斷想) II: '한국에서, ' '자연에 대하여, ' '인물에 대하여, ' '아버님의 이야기, ' '버지니아의 여름, ' '에피소드, ' 'Watermelon Tiger, ' '네가 나를 사랑하느냐?, ' 그리고 '기행문'으로 정하였습니다.'단상 (斷想)'은 여러가지 다양한 주제에 대한 저의 평소 생각들을 그대로 솔직하게 적어 내려간 것입니다. 한국과 미국을 오가면서 느낀 것들을 자연스럽게 쓴 것들 이지요. '자연에 대하여'는 평소 위대한 자연에 대해 제가 생각하고 있는 것들을 소박하게 적어 내려 간 것들입니다. '인물에 대하여'는 제가 관심을 가지고 있었던 사람들의 업적과 사상들을 순수하게 저의 관점에서 적어 내려 간것입니다. '아버님의 이야기'는 제가 어렸을 적에 아버님께로 부터 직접 또는 어머님을 통하여 들었던 기억에 남는 아버님께서 겪으신 흔치 않은 일들에 대해서 쓴 이야기들입니다. 이 책의 제목인 '버지니아의 여름' 글모음에서는 현재 제가 살고 있고 저의 미국고향 (美國故鄕)이라고도 할 수 있는 버지니아의 여름 정취 (情趣)에 대한 저의 순수한 느낌을 하나의 시 (詩)로도 표현 (表現)해 보고자 시도하였습니다. '에피소드'에서는 몇가지 우스운 이야기들을 소개하였고, 'Watermelon Tiger'에서는 Pennsylvania의 Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania의 Professor Emeritus이시고 제가 존경하는 노창섭 박사님의 최근 출간된 영문자서전 (英文自敍傳)인 Watermelon Tiger - Journey of a Korean Country Boy에 대한 저의 부끄러운 서평 (書評)을 실었으며, '네가 나를 사랑하느냐?'에서는 김경화 목사님의 설교문을 소개하였습니다. 마지막으로 '기행문'은 제가 Utah 주를 여행하면서 느낀 것들에 관한 글과 사진들을 수록하고 있습니다.
