The Motherlode Motel

Lakshmi Vikram is grieving for her husband when her estranged daughter announces that she has suddenly divorced. Committing to the hope of reconnecting with her now-remorseful daughter, Lakshmi sells the family's motel in Hays, Kansas, and treks westward to be with Naisha in the remote town of Hawthorne, Nevada. Lakshmi and Naisha must build a new life together in a very old, derelict motel-The Motherlode-deeded to Naisha in her corrupt divorce settlement from the vindictive and unhinged Rajeev Patel, owner of Hawthorne's only casino and operating motel. Deciding to stay and make it work, old wounds between the orderly and willful mother and the contrary and willful daughter must be healed during a constant struggle of repairing the rickety motel and surviving criminal harassment from Rajeev and his cronies. The women gain traction with help from friendly locals- many already at odds with the imperious Rajeev Patel. Lakshmi learns that, far from dead, this little desert town is a whirlwind of unique personalities and surprises.
